Manually setting up your mailbox on mail clients

When you access an email account through a desktop email application such as “Microsoft Outlook 2016®”, the email application will require specific information about your email account.

You can use the auto-configure options available from your mPanel dashboard (Email Accounts/Set up Mail Client) to attempt to automatically configure your email application. If the available options are not compatible with your application, you will need to use the Manual Settings information.

This process is simple to do but there are two methods of connecting, one uses SSL/TLS encryption and the other uses plaintext authentication.

For SSL/TLS encrypted connections you will need to use the following details in your mail client:

Username: john.doe@example.co.uk
Password: Use the email account’s password.

Incoming Server: mail.example.co.uk
IMAP Port: 993
POP3 Port: 995

Outgoing Server: mail.example.co.uk
SMTP Port: 465

IMAP, POP3, and SMTP all require authentication, so you will need to ensure you tick the relevant box that enables this in your mail client.

For Non-SSL, plaintext authentication, you will need to use the following details in your mail client:

Username: john.doe@example.co.uk
Password: Use the email account’s password.

Incoming Server: mail.example.co.uk
IMAP Port: 143
POP3 Port: 110

Outgoing Server: mail.example.co.uk
SMTP Port: 25

IMAP, POP3, and SMTP all require authentication, so you will need to ensure you tick the relevant box that enables this in your mail client.

Click SAVE in your mail client and then allow it to verify the connection, if there is a problem it will notify you of this. If all the settings are good, your email will start flowing in.

For best performance, we recommend using IMAP connectivity. This allows emails to come through to your device as and when they become available on the mail server, using push technology.
